Hello Friends,
God can speak Life to a dead situation.
Have you ever been in a situation that seems as if it is going nowhere or heading in a bad direction?
Maybe it has to do with a relationship you have with someone. Or maybe it has to do with how you see yourself. Hopefully, it's not that.
But a dead situation is one where it seems to be moving to emptiness. It doesn't look like it's going to be life giving.
Our Gospel on this Sunday, the 5th Sunday of Lent, comes from the Gospel of John and it points out that through Jesus Christ, there can be new life in the Resurrection, instead of death - the life of emptiness.
The Jesus Christ who called out the dead Lazarus from his tomb in this Sunday’s Gospel is calling you and me out of the tombs in which we bury ourselves. Christ calls you and me to live in the Light of hope and possibility. To embrace the good life that you and I are offered by God.
The Power of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ isn't something that just happened once in time. Rather, this Power of God’s life-giving Love continues to unfold. For you and me to embrace it, it takes our responding to Christ’s voice calling us out our lifeless situations and cooperating with this Holy Power of Love.
You and I are being called by God to be instruments of the Resurrection here and now.
Each one of us is called to reveal the Resurrection, that is, to bring the transformative, healing power of Christ into our own lives and to the lives of the people around us.
How can you and I do this?
By our cooperating with God’s Grace, perhaps an easy way to begin is to realize that God’s Light of Love shines through our friendships when you and I build each other up. The simple act of engaging in a caring friendship can witness to the good life, to the loving power of the Resurrection to bring life.
Because as Christ showed us, life – new Life of the Resurrection – comes from loving!
Real Love, the selfless way of Jesus that you and I will hear again next weekend as we celebrate Christ’s Passion on Palm Sunday, is there for you and me as Jesus Christ calls us to new Life from a dead situation.
May you and I always embrace and share the Love of God that always calls us to the power of the Resurrection - bringing life to a dead situation.
As always, if there is anything we can do for you at UB Catholic campus ministry, please let me know. We are here for you.
May God bless you with Peace and All Good.
Fr. Greg
